Eagle EGGs in M16

Inside the Eagle Nebula, M16, dense pockets of gas and dust are forming stars. These "evaporating gaseous globules," or EGGs, are visible at the ends of giant pillars of gas. Light from the hottest, brightest new stars heats the pillars, causing gas to evaporate and revealing more EGGs and young stars. This image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2.
