COSMIC MESSAGE
An aurora over Alaska, captured in March 2001. Energetic particles from the Sun slam into Earth's magnetic field, exciting atoms in the upper atmosphere. The atoms then glow, creating these curtains of light. This display was caused by a coronal mass ejection, a large burst of solar wind and magnetic fields from the Sun.
