AFGL 2591 is a massive young star, only about a million years old. It is actively expelling dust-laced gas, forming a nebula over 500 times the diameter of our Solar System in just the last 10,000 years. This infrared image was captured by the NIRI instrument on one of the largest ground-based telescopes.
