Star-Forming Region RCW38 from 2MASS

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The star-forming region RCW38 hides many of its stars in visible light. Thick dust absorbs the light. However, when viewed in infrared light, like in this image from 2MASS, many stars are revealed. This is because dust is less effective at absorbing infrared light.
