NASA APOD · T. A. Rector
COSMIC MESSAGE

Ten thousand years ago, a star exploded, creating the Veil Nebula. This image shows the western end, known as the Witch's Broom Nebula, or NGC 6960. The rampaging gas gains its colors by impacting and exciting existing nearby gas, forming the colorful, expanding cloud of this ancient supernova remnant.
