Zodiacal Light and the False Dawn

NASA APOD · Stefan Seip
COSMIC MESSAGE

The zodiacal light is a faint, diffuse glow seen in the night sky after sunset or before sunrise. It extends along the ecliptic, appearing as a triangular pyramid of light. This phenomenon is caused by sunlight scattering off dust particles in the inner solar system.
