A Large Active Region Crosses the Sun
NASA APOD · Jack Newton
COSMIC MESSAGE
An exceptionally large sunspot region, AR 10652, is crossing the Sun. This active region is a hub of hot plasma, flares, and strong magnetic fields. It even produced a powerful Coronal Mass Ejection. The sunspot group is so big it can be seen without magnification with proper eye protection. This close-up was taken just four days ago, showing its impressive scale.
