The Lagoon Nebula in Gas, Dust, and Stars
NASA APOD · Antonio Fernandez
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Lagoon Nebula, also known as M8, is a battleground between stars, gas, and dust in Sagittarius. Red-glowing gas is hydrogen struck by high-energy starlight. Dark dust filaments, created in the atmospheres of cool giant stars, lace through the nebula. You can see this star-forming region without binoculars.
