An Iridescent Cloud Over Colorado

NASA APOD · August Allen
COSMIC MESSAGE

An iridescent cloud glows with unusual colors over Colorado. This rare phenomenon occurs when small, uniform water droplets in a cloud diffract sunlight. The different colors are deflected by varying amounts, creating a spectrum of hues when the sun is mostly hidden by thicker clouds.
