COSMIC MESSAGE
Stars are not alone in space. About ten percent of the visible matter in our Milky Way is gas, called the interstellar medium. This gas is not uniform, even near our Sun. It is difficult to detect because it is tenuous and emits little light, but it absorbs specific colors in the light of nearby stars.
