NASA APOD · Steve Cannistra
COSMIC MESSAGE

The ancient constellation of Auriga, the Charioteer, is rich in star clusters and nebulae. This deep telescopic view, captured in January, spans nearly four degrees on the sky. It includes emission region IC 405, also known as the Flaming Star Nebula, about 1,500 light-years distant. Its red, convoluted clouds are glowing hydrogen gas.
