COSMIC MESSAGE

This detailed map of Jupiter's turbulent cloud tops was created from five hand-drawn sketches. Made with colored pencils at the eyepiece of a 16-inch telescope, the original drawings were about 5 inches in diameter. Astronomical artist Fred Burgeot used Jupiter's rotation to cover the planet's complete surface, observing on different dates in November and December 2011.
