Unusual Pits Discovered on Pluto

The New Horizons spacecraft discovered unusual pits on Pluto during its flyby. These indentations, up to a kilometer across and tens of meters deep, are in a lake of frozen nitrogen within Sputnik Planum. Unlike most impact craters in the solar system, these pits are similarly sized and densely packed, suggesting a different formation process.
