The Orion Nebula in Infrared from HAWK-I

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Orion Nebula, also known as M42, is the closest major star-forming region to Earth, about 1,300 light-years away. This image, taken by the HAWK-I instrument, is the deepest infrared view of the nebula. It reveals many previously unknown low-mass stars and possibly free-floating planets. Infrared light allows us to see through the dust that obscures visible light.
