Messier 87, a bright elliptical galaxy in the Virgo cluster, is home to the supermassive black hole first imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope. This infrared image from the Spitzer Space Telescope shows M87 as a large galaxy in blue hues, about 55 million light-years away. Although it appears mostly featureless, the image reveals relativistic jets blasting from its central region.
