COSMIC MESSAGE
This dark cloud in Scorpius is almost 40 light-years across, a vast region where new stars are forming. It appears in silhouette against a dense field of stars. Intense ultraviolet radiation from nearby hot, young stars shapes the cloud, giving it a swept-back, cometary appearance.
