Fifty years ago, Apollo 17 astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan used duct tape to repair a fender on their lunar rover. The Moon is covered in a fine, gritty dust called regolith, created by micrometeorite bombardment. This dust, which is very abrasive, caused problems for both astronauts and equipment.
