COSMIC MESSAGE

The core of the Milky Way rises above the La Silla Observatory in Chile. Our galaxy's center, seen toward the constellation Sagittarius, is flanked by two European Southern Observatory telescopes. On the left is the New Technology Telescope, which pioneered active optics, and on the right is the ESO 3.6-meter Telescope, home to exoplanet-hunting spectrographs.
