In 1938, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan experienced a blizzard that piled snow drifts to the level of utility poles. Nearly a meter of snow fell over two days, making roads impassable and trapping cars, buses, and a train. The storm, which started 86 years ago this week, also caused a dangerous fire.
