Two Tails of Comet West

Comet West displayed two enormous tails that appeared to wrap around the sky. The bluer ion tail always points away from the Sun, while the prominent dust tail trails the comet's nucleus. This comet was visually spectacular in March 1976, a sight that occurs only about once a decade.
