Io Full Face Credit:

Io, Jupiter's closest large moon, is the most volcanically active body in our solar system. Its surface is completely buried in lava every few thousand years. The black and red areas in this Galileo spacecraft image show recent eruptions, likely only a few years old. This view highlights the side of Io that always faces away from Jupiter.
