Seven Jets from Comet Hale-Bopp Credit:

Comet Hale-Bopp showed unusual activity in late 1996, even while still far from the Sun. This false-color image reveals at least seven distinct jets of gas and dust streaming from its nucleus. As comets approach the Sun, their surfaces warm, releasing trapped materials. Astronomers studied Hale-Bopp's jets to understand how much they reveal about the early Solar System.
