Detailing Hale-Bopp Credit and Copyright:

This detailed image of Comet Hale-Bopp's coma and dust tail was recorded just before the comet crossed the plane of Earth's orbit. As it moves into the southern sky, it becomes easier to see for observers in the Southern Hemisphere. Astronomers and spacecraft are studying the comet as it continues its journey.
