Rafting for Solar Neutrinos

Scientists are still trying to understand why we detect fewer neutrinos from our Sun than expected. This image shows equipment surrounding a massive tank of pure water at the Super-Kamiokande experiment in Japan. This detector is designed to catch neutrinos, which are elementary particles that usually pass right through matter. Large detectors are needed to increase the chances of a neutrino collision.
