Lunar Close-Up

NASA's Lunar Prospector spacecraft moved into a lower orbit around the Moon in late January 1999, dropping from 100 kilometers to about 30 kilometers. This closer approach allows its instruments to gather higher-resolution data, confirming earlier evidence of water-ice at the lunar poles. The mission aims to map the Moon's global properties, even with the increased risk of a lower orbit.
