Weak Lensing Distorts the Universe

The distant universe might not be exactly as it appears due to weak gravitational lensing. Dark matter, invisible to us, can distort the images of background galaxies, similar to looking through an old window. By observing how these galaxies appear flattened and aligned, astronomers can map the distribution of dark matter that causes these distortions.
