Flying Over Asteroid Eros

The NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft recorded its first fly-over sequence of asteroid 433 Eros earlier this month. This condensed hour-long time-lapse shows the asteroid's saddle region appearing to zip past the camera. The spacecraft orbited about 200 kilometers above Eros, providing data that helps distinguish between naturally dark regions and areas darkened by space weathering.
