Antarctic Ozone Hole Widens

The ozone hole, a seasonal thinning of Earth's protective ozone layer, reformed over the South Pole in September 2000, wider than ever before for that time of year. Ozone shields us from damaging ultraviolet sunlight. Its vulnerability to CFCs and halons released into the atmosphere is a cause for concern, and the large size was likely related to unusual atmospheric conditions.
