Sgr A*: Fast Stars Near the Galactic Center

These stars are moving quickly around the center of our Galaxy, as seen in this infrared time-lapse movie. The yellow mark at the center is a radio source named Sgr A*. The rapid motion of these stars suggests they are held by a compact, massive object. Analysis indicates this central object is over a million times the mass of our Sun.
