Pioneer 10: The First 7 Billion Miles

Pioneer 10, launched 25 years before this image, was 7.3 billion miles away. It is almost 11 light-hours distant, about twice as far from the Sun as Pluto. Pioneer 10 is bound for interstellar space at 28,000 miles per hour. This spacecraft holds many firsts, including being the first human artifact to venture beyond the known planets of the Solar System.
