Debris Disks Surround Distant Suns

This image shows an artist's vision of a debris disk around a distant sun, where planets might be forming. Insets show actual images from the Hubble Space Telescope of such disks around AU Microscopii and HD107146. Combined with infrared data from the Spitzer Space Telescope, these observations provide a direct link between extrasolar disks and planets.
