A Panorama from Mauna Kea

The summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii is a premiere location for telescopes. This daytime panorama shows the dormant volcano's cinder cones and the array of observatories that dot its landscape. The white snow and clouds blend into an alien scene, a stark contrast to the dark, star-filled skies typically associated with this astronomical site. It offers a unique perspective on one of Earth's most important astronomical platforms.
