The Landscape on Comet Tempel 1

This image shows the surface of Comet Tempel 1, captured by the Deep Impact probe's Impactor Targeting Sensor just minutes before impact. The landscape features two half-kilometer craters near the center. The impactor struck this area, penetrating the surface and sending a plume of debris into space, providing data on the comet's subsurface composition.
