Carina Pillar and Jets

This cosmic pillar of gas and dust, almost 2 light-years wide, resides in the Carina Nebula, one of our galaxy's largest star-forming regions. Located 7,500 light-years away in the southern sky, its convoluted shape is sculpted by winds and radiation from hot, massive stars. Inside the pillar, new stars are actively forming.
