The Galactic Center in Infrared from 2MASS
This infrared image from the 2MASS survey shows nearly a million stars at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. The Galactic Center itself glows on the lower left, about 30,000 light-years away in Sagittarius. Infrared light penetrates the dust that obscures this region in visible light.
