Milky Way Above Easter Island

NASA APOD · Manel Soria
MENSAJE CÓSMICO

The ancient stone statues of Easter Island stand silhouetted against the Milky Way. These large figures, called moai, were carved by the Rapa Nui people centuries ago. Their purpose remains a subject of debate among archaeologists. This photograph illuminates some of the moai, connecting the mysteries of Earth with the vastness of the cosmos.
