A Landing on Planet Earth
A Soyuz spacecraft descends to Earth, its retro-rockets firing as it makes a soft landing in Kazakhstan. This specific Soyuz TMA-08M brought back Expedition 36 Commander Pavel Vinogradov, Flight Engineer Alexander Misurkin, and Flight Engineer Chris Cassidy after their five and a half months aboard the International Space Station. The image captures the craft in silhouette against the bright glare of its rockets, a common sight for returning space travelers.
