Massive Black Hole Shreds Passing Star

NASA APOD
MENSAJE CÓSMICO

Observations from Earth-orbiting observatories captured an event called ASASSN-14li, where a star got too close to a black hole. High-energy light variations indicate that part of the star was shredded and reformed into a disk swirling around the black hole. A jet formed on the black hole's spin axis.
