Animation: Perseid Meteor Shower

This animation illustrates the orbit of the Perseid meteoroid stream around the Sun. These small bits of stony grit were expelled from Comet Swift-Tuttle. When Earth passes through this stream each year, we experience the Perseid Meteor Shower, as these tiny particles burn up in our atmosphere.
