A Laser Strike at the Galactic Center

NASA APOD
MENSAJE CÓSMICO

Astronomers at the Very Large Telescope in Chile are using a powerful laser to create an artificial star in the upper atmosphere. This 'laser guide star' allows them to measure and correct for atmospheric distortions in real time. The goal is to get sharper images of distant objects, including the center of our own Milky Way Galaxy.
