Sunrise at Copernicus Crater

Copernicus crater, a prominent impact site on the Moon's Oceanus Procellarum, is seen here at the lunar terminator, the boundary between night and day. Sunlight is just beginning to strike its tall western walls, casting long shadows that extend the crater's outline. This telescopic portrait captures the dramatic interplay of light and shadow on April 14.
