Asteroids in the Distance

Rocks from space hit Earth constantly, but larger impacts are less frequent. Most small bits of space dust burn up in our atmosphere daily. This image shows asteroids in the distance, reminders of the many rocky bodies that populate our solar system. Significant threats from larger objects, like those 100 meters in diameter, occur roughly every 1000 years.
