Found on the Moon: Candidate for Oldest Known Earth Rock

A fragment of a rock found on the Moon by Apollo 14 astronaut Alan Shepard has been identified as a possible Earth rock. Lunar sample 14321, analyzed back on Earth, contained a piece that matched Earth rocks better than other Moon rocks. This fragment has been dated back 4 billion years, making it potentially the oldest known Earth rock. This suggests an early impact might have launched Earth material to the Moon.
