Apollo 17: The Crescent Earth
Our planet, a curved, sunlit crescent against the blackness of space, was captured in this photograph by Apollo 17. From this distant perspective, Earth appears small, its entire horizon visible. This view is far different from the much closer scenes observed by crews on the International Space Station, who orbit every 90 minutes.
