The Red Sprite and the Tree
The red sprite and the tree are very different, despite being in the same image. The red sprite is a form of lightning, high in Earth's atmosphere, with electrons moving near light speed. The tree is a plant, anchored to the ground. The sprite is bright, illuminating the sky, while the tree reflects light. This photo captures a striking contrast between a fleeting atmospheric phenomenon and a stable part of the landscape.
