Methane Discovered on Distant Exoplanet
Astronomers have detected methane in the atmosphere of exoplanet K2-18b, a planet 124 light-years away in the constellation Leo. This exoplanet is larger and more massive than Earth, yet orbits within its star's habitable zone. The presence of both water vapor and methane makes K2-18b a compelling target in the search for extraterrestrial life. The James Webb Space Telescope continues to analyze its atmosphere.
