Star Factory Messier 17

Messier 17 is a star-forming region, about 5,500 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius. This 1.5-degree wide field spans 150 light-years. The image highlights faint details of gas and dust clouds, using narrowband data against a backdrop of Milky Way stars. Stellar winds and radiation from hot, massive stars have already shaped this cosmic factory.
