COSMIC MESSAGE
M16, the Eagle Nebula, combines a young open star cluster with a spectacular emission nebula. The star cluster, with its hundreds of bright, young members, is visible slightly above and to the right of the image's center. The surrounding gas glows red as electrons recombine with hydrogen nuclei, while distinct regions of interstellar dust weave through the nebula.
