Phobos: Doomed Moon of Mars

Mars has two small moons, Phobos and Deimos, named for Fear and Panic. Phobos, the larger of the two, is about 17 miles across and heavily cratered, resembling an asteroid. This 1977 Viking orbiter image shows Phobos zipping through the Martian sky. Scientists believe these moons may be captured asteroids from the main belt.
