Sunlight Through Saturn's Rings
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
This November 1995 Hubble Space Telescope image shows Saturn's rings illuminated from below by the Sun. Normally, we see the rings fully lit by reflected sunlight. The three bright ring features are visible because the rings are not solid. They are made of many separate chunks of rocky, icy material, which allows scattered sunlight to pass through them.
